What is the tea ceremony (Chadō) ?

The Chadō (“the Way of Tea”) is a Japanese ritual in which a host prepares and serves matcha through precise and codified gestures.

In a refined, minimalist space, every movement is slow, controlled, and intentional. The silence, the light, the texture of the bowl — everything invites you to slow down.

More than a tasting, Chadō is an experience of presence — between meditation, contemplation, and shared awareness.

Introduced to Japan in the 12th century by Zen monks, powdered tea evolved into a formalized practice in the 16th century. Sen no Rikyū codified and refined it into an aesthetic of radical simplicity inspired by wabi and Zen, favoring humble objects, silent gestures, and deep attention to each moment.

The ceremony became a discipline that is at once aesthetic, spiritual, and social. Its guiding principles are harmony (wa), respect (kei), purity (sei), and tranquility (jaku).
